Although our primary products are international property insurance
and international personal liability insurance, we also have a array
of products that support people working and living outside of their
home country, that may be hard to secure. One is international moving
insurance. Contact us for a quick and easy quote. Why use IPI international
moving insurance vs. what the moving company is trying to sell you,
please read below.
Who Would Need International Moving Insurance?
Whether
you are working on expatriate assignment for one of the Global 50,
or moving yourself to Ireland to live, you may need international
moving insurance.
Corporate expatriate employees typically have their international
personal property shipped and insured by their employers moving
company. However, here are a few reasons you may need to work with
IPI even if your move is paid by your employer.
First, you may be shipping items internationally that are not allowed,
or not covered by the contract between your employer and the moving
company. A piano, art, or antiques are common examples of items
your company will not pay to move or insure during a move. You should
check this with your employer before the shipment of goods.
You may be shipping more than what the company will pay for. If
the amount of goods paid for by the employer is limited to $50,000
and you are shipping $60,000 you need to secure the extra $10,000
of insurance "on the side" and we can assist.
Why Not Use the Insurance the Moving Company is Offering Me?
The moving company that actually picks up and moves your personal
effects does offer insurance. However, the quality of insurance
may be very poor and the rates high!
They will be twice as expensive as our insurance solution. Moving
insurers take the pure insurance rate and mark up the cost by 100%
or more as a way to make additional profit. Again, who is the insurer
they are using and can you recognize the name? What are the policy
specifics if you have a large claim? Moving insurance companies
are not insurance professionals nor are they licensed to transact
insurance.
If you are moving from Arizona to California the risk are minimal.
International moves are a different story. Internationally, we have
heard stories of containers flying off cargo ships during storms,
insect infestations, quarantine, and 100 other risks that make the
chance of claim much higher with an international move. Because
international moves almost always occur by a combination of ship,
rail, and truck the proper insurance is essential because the chance
that there will be a claim, at least a small one, is much higher
than during a domestic move.
